What the Studio is Like
The space is roughly 6m x 5m and is designed to be simple, usable and easy to adapt depending on what you need.

It’s not overly styled or precious - and that’s intentional. You’re free to use it in a way that works for you.

Studio hire is normally booked as a full day, giving you up to eight hours in the space. This gives you plenty of time to set up, shoot or film without feeling rushed, and allows us to have the studio ready for your booking before you arrive.
If you only need the studio for a couple of hours, get in touch. I may occasionally be able to accommodate shorter bookings on weekdays or evenings, depending on availability.

The studio measures approximately 6m x 5m. It can comfortably fit and seat around 10 people. Please let me know your group size and plans when enquiring so I can make sure the space will work well for you.

Studio hire includes exclusive use of the main creative space, with tables, chairs and a sofa available. You’ll also have access to shared kitchen and toilet facilities, with tea and coffee provided.

Photography lighting and backdrops may be available by prior arrangement for an additional charge. Tell me what you’re planning when you enquire and I can confirm what is available and whether you’ll need to bring anything with you.

Yes. The studio has been used for podcasts, interviews, online courses and other filmed content. It is located within a working building rather than a soundproof recording studio, so weekend bookings are recommended when quiet recording conditions are particularly important.

Can It Be Used for Meetings or Training?
Yes - and people do.
The studio can work well for small, informal meetings, training sessions or workshops, particularly for creative or small business use.
Just bear in mind:

Seating is currently a mix of chairs and a sofa and 2 X 6ft trestle tables
It suits relaxed, practical sessions rather than corporate-style setups

Studio Hire Rates
Full Day (up to 8 hours) £220
Evening and shorter sessions may be available depending on availability.

You’re welcome to bring your own equipment, or use what’s available in the studio.

Full studio kit (Elinchrome D Lite strobes and skyport triggers or Godox continuous (video) lighting, various modifiers, lightstands & backdrops)

How It Works
You’ll have exclusive use of the main studio for the duration of your booking, so the creative space is entirely yours. The kitchen and toilet facilities are shared with one other business in the building.
I’ll be on-site when you arrive to help with access and make sure you have everything you need to get started. After that, the studio is yours to use throughout your booking.
If you’re unsure whether your idea or planned setup will work in the space, just ask. You’re also welcome to arrange a visit and look around before booking.

Add an Associate Photographer
Have the ideas but not the camera know-how? You can add an Associate Photographer to your studio hire.
They’ll stay with you during the shoot, operate the camera and studio lighting and take the photographs for you, while you keep creative control over what you’re creating. You can arrive with a complete shot list and direct everything yourself, or ask for help with ideas, posing and those little details that are easy to miss when you’re also trying to organise products, outfits or models.
It’s a useful option for small businesses, designers and content creators who know the images they want but don’t necessarily have the equipment or experience to photograph them themselves.
Associate Photographer: £35 per hour
An additional hour is added after the shoot for downloading the photographs, converting the files to JPEG and preparing them for transfer.
There’s no editing or retouching included, so you receive the JPEG files ready to edit and use as you wish.
Prefer to photograph it yourself?
Absolutely fine. You’re welcome to bring your own camera and shoot independently.
If you’re also hiring our Elinchrom flash lighting, please let us know which camera you’ll be using before your booking so we can check that it’s compatible with our flash trigger (which requires a hot shoe). Not all cameras have the connection needed to trigger studio flash.
If your camera isn’t compatible, you can still use the continuous lighting available in the studio, or add an Associate Photographer who will photograph the shoot using suitable Pictorial Photography equipment.
Alora: Gymwear Shoot with an Associate Photographer
Alora is a locally based gymwear brand built around confidence and encouraging women to be proud of who they’re becoming.
Founder Taryn hired the studio for a content shoot, bringing along her models, outfits and a clear idea of the photographs and content she wanted to create. She also added an Associate Photographer for the shoot, which on this occasion was Sarah’s assistant Amber.
With a background in fashion and currently studying Fashion Design and Marketing at university, this was right up Amber’s street. Taryn remained in control of the creative direction, guiding the shots she needed while Amber took care of the photography and studio lighting.
Together they worked through close-ups, full-length images and group shots, while Taryn was also free to capture behind-the-scenes footage and video clips for her social content.
Having an extra pair of hands behind the camera meant Taryn could concentrate on the brand, the models and the content she wanted to create, rather than having to do everything herself.

Recent Studio Hire: LAB/OR8 Podcast
We’ve recently welcomed the team behind LAB/OR8 into the studio to record several episodes of LAB/OR8 The Show.
LAB/OR8 is a creative platform based in Berwick-upon-Tweed, sharing the voices and work of musicians, artists, writers and other creatives across North Northumberland.
Hosts Bodhi Turnbull and James Sanderson brought along their own equipment, guests and crew, using the studio’s sofas, chairs, tables and props to create a relaxed setup that suited the show.
It’s a good example of how flexible the studio can be. With no fixed layout, the space can be adapted for podcasts, interviews, content days, online courses, photo shoots and other small creative projects.

Sound and Quiet Bookings
The studio is based within a working building, with other businesses operating nearby and shared facilities such as the kitchen and toilet.
For most creative work, this isn’t an issue at all. However, if you’re recording audio, filming interviews, creating a podcast, or doing anything where silence is important, it’s worth thinking carefully about the best time to book.
If you need the studio to be as quiet as possible, I recommend booking at the weekend where available. This is when the other businesses in the building are less likely to be operating, which gives you the best chance of having the quietest conditions for recording or filming.
The studio is still a practical, shared-building environment rather than a soundproof recording studio, but weekend bookings usually work best for projects where background noise needs to be kept to a minimum.
A Note on the Space
If you’re looking for a fully hosted venue or a space for a larger group, places like The Straw yard, Berwick Workspace, the William Elder Building or Berwick Parish Centre may be a better fit.
If you want a flexible, private and creative space where you can set things up your own way, the studio tends to work really well.
