Planning your product photography shoot

Being able to show your product's size through proportions and scale helps a potential buyer visualise your product. A good way to do this is by using a universal object or a person to show the size of the product compared to them.

Having a carefully arranged Flat Lay shot can create a story with the product, and these are really effective for website banner images. It doesn’t need to be complicated to be effective.

What happens on the day of your product photography shoot

Usually, the first session a brand will book with me is a longer portfolio shoot to start building up their bank of images.

How many hours a business will book depends on the number of products and how many other photographs are needed for their website.

For example, the first shoot might cover their premises, staff, and product variations, with follow-up shoots covering product updates or seasonal promotions, taking only an hour or two in the studio.

Sarah photographing products in her studio in Berwick-upon-Tweed

I know that choosing a photographer for your business isn’t just about the photos. It’s about feeling understood, supported, and confident that the end result will genuinely reflect what you do.

I’m Sarah, a professional photographer based in Berwick-upon-Tweed, working with small businesses, makers and independent brands across Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. My work focuses on product photography and branding imagery that feels thoughtful, natural and considered — never rushed or generic.

Before we even pick up a camera, I take the time to understand your business, your products and how you plan to use the images. Whether that’s for your website, online shop, social media or marketing materials, my aim is to create product photography that works hard for you and fits seamlessly with the rest of your brand.

I love working with business owners who care deeply about what they make. Seeing their online presence level up with a consistent set of professional images is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

I’d be delighted to help tell your story.

Client experiences with product photography

Hazel Smith - International Tartans

“Sarah has just completed some outstanding product photography with our textiles company. We'd had an initial conversation with a couple of slick product photographers in Edinburgh but Sarah actually really got us. After a couple of sessions in the studio, we went out 'on location' for some website shots with some of our goods and chattels - she put her heart and soul into that work and we now have the basis for a really professional and competitive website.”

“I’m so glad you are taking care of my business branding and product photography Sarah, I really feel like I have landed on my feet with you.  You’re so accommodating and just take my photo stress away! Looking forward to continuing working with you.”
